If you'd rather go the pretty way (which is about the same in time and distance, and I've never hit bad traffic), ignore step 6. Once you turn right onto 98 (step 5), that will take you all the way to the bridge just fine. Personally, I think staying on 98 is more intuitive, because it hugs the coast so you know you can't possibly be lost!
